Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby Cancellation
2022 Derby Cancelled

It is with great disappointment that the Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby board has decided to cancel the Derby scheduled for February 26, 2022. While this decision was difficult, it is clear that with health and safety concerns of our community, and the current Provincial capacity restrictions, it is impossible to host the event in 2022. We are planning to celebrate our 15th Anniversary next year on February 25, 2023 – should health and safety conditions and Provincial restrictions allow.

“COVID-19 and the Public Health restrictions have become part of our life over the last 2 years. The most recent Public Health Order was extended to February and will likely be extended further as the province continues to deal with the Omicron variant.
I am sure that the board of the Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby found it a difficult decision to cancel their derby for the 2nd year, but I believe it is the best decision based on the safety of the derby volunteers and attendees,” John Fleming – Emergency Coordinator – Lac du Bonnet

Ticket purchasers are being contacted and offered their choice of a refund or a voucher for the 2023 Derby. If you purchased tickets and have not been contacted, please call Cyndie Mitchell at 204-213-0033 or gm@ldbice.ca. To show our thanks to those who purchased advanced tickets for the 2022 Derby, your name will be entered into a random draw to win one of four prizes of a total value of over $600.

LDB ICE will still conduct our $3,000 cash raffle to be drawn on February 26, 2022. This raffle will help us to continue to support programs that benefit our community. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased in various stores in Lac du Bonnet or by sending an e-transfer to ldbice_raffle@outlook.com When sending an e-transfer please include your name, phone number, and email address in the “Message” portion of the e-transfer. Once received our raffle coordinator will contact you to confirm your ticket purchase.

We thank ticket purchasers, sponsors, vendors, and our partners for their support, and look forward to your continued support in the future! It is a difficult time for everyone, but as an event that is held for the benefit of the community, the health and well-being of our community must come first and foremost.

Moving Forward for the Community
We do have some good news! We are excited to move forward with our mission of supporting our community through two programs.

• We are awarding up to two Student Bursaries of $1,000 each. In 2016, the Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby Committee began the LDB ICE Student Bursary Program. Since its inception, the Committee has awarded $11,000 to 11 deserving students pursuing post-secondary education.

• Community non-profit groups can apply for a grant of up to $5,000 for community projects and initiatives. The grant intake is open now until January 31, 2022.

Applications for the Student Bursaries and the Non-Profit Grant are available online at https://ldbice.ca.

LDB ICE 2023

Cancelling this year’s event is disappointing but we are already at work planning for LDBICE 2023! After all, we have our 15th Anniversary to celebrate with more prizes to give away and more great ice fishing. We hope to see you on the ice next year.
